The failure of a flat bookmark is simple: it falls out. Carried in a bag, upside down, the bookmark ends up in the bottom of the bag and the reader loses their place. A magnetic bookmark folds over one page and grips it, and it does not.

Two small magnets are captured between the printed layers so nothing is visible from outside. Grip is a specification — too weak and it slides, too strong and it marks a thin page over time, which is a genuine concern for anything valuable.

Because it wraps a page, the print is read from both faces and from the fold, so artwork wants designing as a strip rather than as a rectangle. We redraw for that as part of the mockup.
